What is Freedom Rowers?
Established in 2004, Freedom Rowers is a non-profit rowing team for youth on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. By teaching the discipline that rowing requires, we boost self esteem, open doors for scholastic, community and personal achievement, and nurture total mind-body well being. Other sports focus on winning the game, we shapes lives.
The team serves student-athletes from Talbot, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Kent and Dorchester Counties. Freedom Rowers is an independent sports organization.
How is the Team managed?
We are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit which is governed by a board of directors made up of community, civic and business leaders dedicated to uphold the mission, “to help youth reach their full potential through the sport of rowing” and to achieve each of the organization’s goals. Our Executive Director, Chris Gill, oversees the day to day operation of the team and communications. Our Head Coach, Alex Greenlee works with 2 other coaches to train our rowers in fitness and rowing skills as well as arranging all regatta schedules and boat maintenance. We welcome participation of our rowing parents as part of a Booster Club.
What are Team goals?
Freedom Rowers has just completed another successful season as of Fall 2016, and our goal for the upcoming season is to continue to build upon that success. We are committed to promoting the awareness of this extraordinary sport in order to recruit more novice rowers/coxen and further enhance the overall depth of the team. We strive to have the demographics of Freedom Rowers participants replicate the demographics of the local population. Our desire is to see all of our youth rowers graduate from High School, achieving their maximum academic and athletic potential, becoming all around sound citizens.
